Festival of the Son

The Festival of the Son began in 1972 at the Living Waters Christian Ranch in Whitethorn California in Mendocino County, In 1973 through 1975 it was held in the Santa Cruz mountains at brother Johnson's ranch. A major development took place in 1976 at the Campgrounds of America in Petuluma California. Over 6000 people attended that festival and it was a platform for such leaders in the Jesus Movement like Jim Durkin, Jack Sparks, Dennis Peacocke, Holy Hubert, Lonnie Frisbee, Bob Mumford and Ern Baxter, just to name some of the more popular personalities of the day. I was the MC for most of the festivals and to my most vivid recollection the festival in 1976 was thee closure of the Jesus Movement in Northern California, the organic communities ceased to meet after that historic but final chapter of the gatherings . I shut things down in 1977 to make way for "Jesus West Coast" a more commercial concert oriented event. In 1978 we tried to jump start the festival in Yorkville California, albeit with a much smaller gathering. In 1979 through 1981 we moved the venue to Sky Mountain Ranch in Castro Valley California , that was the last year I was involved with the Festival. Several years passed and Gary Kron reopened the festival near Richardson's Grove in Humbolt County, that was the final gathering of the Festival of the Son. With out a doubt some of the most joy filled and years as a believer. To the best of my knowledge the photos and music attributed to this site are accurate to the years listed, iyou find any discrepancies or wish to send me some of your photos to add to the site I will be more thant happy to oblige.
